Dorsey's Search is the ninth village to be developed in the planned community known as Columbia, Maryland. Our village is comprised of two neighborhoods: Dorsey Hall and Fairway Hills. Dorsey Hall, the first neighborhood in the village, was named after the Dorsey Hall Manor House, which was built by the Dorsey family in the early 1700's. The Village's street names were selected from the collection of Oliver Wendell Holmes' poetry. Fairway Hills is named for the former Allview Golf Course.
The first residents began moving into Dorsey Hall in 1980. Since then the Dorsey's Search population has grown to approximately 7,500 people. Dorsey Hall is comprised of single-family homes, condominiums and townhouses. While Fairway Hills is comprised of townhouses, condominiums and apartment complexes.
The Columbia Association built the Dorsey's Search Meeting Room in 1982 so that association members could have meetings and hold small community gatherings. As the village population increased, Columbia Association constructed Linden Hall in 1991/92. Linden Hall is located in the Dorsey's Search Village Center which houses a variety of retail shops and restaurants. Linden Hall is also the home to the village association offices and serves as a community center for many different functions.
